Reflection Paragraph on Sources!

The sources that I used for this project were very useful. Each website I used had the same information. No false advertisement. The most useful website I had was www.iSeek.com, because it gave me most of my information about the colleges, the salary, and the courses I should take. All of my sources were trustworthy, they put out the same information. I found all the answers to my unanswered questions. The site the displayed the most obvious bias was www.education-portal.com. It just kind of threw answers out to you.

Reflection paragraph on process

During this search I found out many interesting things about Anesthesiology. During the search it was difficult to find the original pay rate of a Anesthesiologist. Each site I visited had a vary between numbers, then after searching different sites I found that they actually weren't varied too far apart. I mostly enjoyed making the Wordle's for this project. If I had to do this project again, I wouldn't change anything. My findings were great. I found everything I was looking for.

Reflection Paragraph on findings

The most important facts I learned about my findings is that Anesthesiologist are the fourth most high paying medical profession in the world. Starting at almost $294,000 a year, to $310,000 a year, is a big difference. I answered 4 of 5 of my questions that I asked at the beginning of this blog. I also found out that I would have to major in physcology, biology, and economics. You would also have to major in other Science classes. I also learned that to be hired on as a Anesthesiologist, you have to be very well with the patients. You also have to be able to handle the fact that you are about to put someone to sleep, and that they may or may not wake up. You also have to be friendly, and you have to always be willing to work, even when your shift is over. I learned most of everything that I wanted to know about Anesthesiology, sure there are some things I would like to find out, but I can't find these things out till I'm a official Anesthesiologist. I feel very sure about my future career. After learning everything I know now, there is no doubt that's what I want to be.

Finding Paragraph #3

When hiring a Anesthesiologist, you need someone quick on their feet, fast decision makers, and to always do their best. Always, when hiring anyone, you would want them to start their new job in no less than 2 weeks. When it comes to Anesthesiology, the sooner the better. The new Anesthesiologist must be good with the patients also. They also must be physically active for long periods of time, and not get tired quickly. New employees must be willing to travel, work any shift, night and day. They  must also be organized, control machines, read medical charts, and many more things.

Finding Paragraph #2

On the very last website I researched, I found that there are many colleges that major in Anesthesiology. Some colleges that I have never heard of either. There are 88 colleges all over the United States that have this major. Or you can take online classes. There are different websites to different schools that major in Anesthesiology. The online classes make it easy for people that have jobs, or have a busy life schedule.

Finding Paragraph #1

To answer my questions that I had brought up at the beginning of this blog, i researched four different websites containing varieties of information that answer those questions. In the first website I visited, it showed me what classes I would have to take to become an Anesthesiologist. You would have to go to college and major in  calculus, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology and physics. It showed me that I would have to complete four years of medical school. Students must complete four more years in an anesthesiology residency. The third website I visited showed me a Anesthesiologists yearly income. A Anesthesiologist would bring in about $300,000 a year. "Anesthesiologists average about $1,200 per day and up to $1,350 for cardiac cases or pediatrics. This amounts to $6,000-6,750 per week on assignment."

Quote, paraphrase, and citation #5

"Once in medical school, students spend the first two years in a classroom setting, studying biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, medical ethics and many other topics. Anesthesiology is a medical specialty, in which students may gain clinical experience during their second two years. After finishing medical school, students may apply for anesthesiology residency programs, which provide the bulk of professional training and prepare students to become licensed anesthesiologists."

This paragraph is based on what a medical student would have to go through to become a anesthesiologist. They have to take time out of their day to learn about what their going to be doing in their future.

Quote, paraphrase, and citation #4

"Anesthesiologists are well-paid, but that comes with a toll on one's personal life. High levels of job stress and a very hectic call schedule can often be part of a career as an anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologists are involved with a variety of emergent cases such trauma, transplants, and OB (deliveries). Therefore, a rigorous call rotation may be a way of life. Anesthesiologists also do not get to have much interaction with patients. Patients are always pretty much "knocked out" when being treated by an anesthesiologist. A brief pre- or post-op visit is often the extent of an anesthesiologist's interpersonal interaction with a patient."

This paragraph is mostly saying that due to the crazy hours at work, being called in day or night for a job, there is no telling when you'll be called to go to work next. It's also saying that you don't have much time to get to know your patient before you knock them out for surgery or anything like that.

Peds Chart 2011
This chart is showing just how many people have became a anesthesiologist over the time period of 25 years. Not including 2012-2013. That's a lot of people. From 1987 to 2011, more than over 12000 people have became anesthesiologist. That number is steady rising till this day.

Quote, paraphrase, and citation #3

"There is one important decision you must make before deciding to become an anesthesiologist: Do you want to become a physician? Medical school is designed to give students the widest range of choices, rotating them through all the different areas of medicine. Some medical students find that they are drawn to anesthesiology because of its intense doctor patient relationships combined with cutting edge technology in a fast paced environment. Anesthesiologists' training overlaps into internal medicine, critical care, obstetrics and pain medicine, while dealing with emergency cases, organ transplants and all types of surgeries."

All this paragraph is saying is that, in order to become a anesthesiologist, you must decide if that's really what you want to do the rest of your life. Dealing with patients in a situation like this isn't as easy as it seems, it takes a lot of someone to be able to risk someone else's life for your job.

Quote, paraphrase, and citation #2

"At the undergraduate level, while there is no one major required for a career in anesthesiology, it's recommended that students choose to major in a natural science or enroll in a pre-medical program to prepare for medical school. Biology is the most popular major for candidates interested in medicine, but majors in microbiology, chemistry, neuroscience or nutritional science can also prepare students to become an anesthesiologist."

This paragraph is telling me what courses I should take in college to be able to major in anesthesiology. Science is the biggest class you would have to take to be able to major in anesthesiology.

This picture is taken in a operation room where someone is having surgery performed while under anesthesia. The woman standing at the back left is a anesthesiologist. She's making sure the person under anesthesia is still in full contact with themselves. The anesthesiologist is risking everything right now, but also making sure everything is right with the person unconscious.

Quote, paraphrase, and citation 1

"Before we discuss how to become an anesthesiologist, it may be helpful to discuss what an anesthesiologist is. Simply put, an anesthesiologist is a physician (M.D., or D.O.) who administers pain-killing gas or injections during operations and surgical procedures. This could include a variety of drugs and levels of anesthesia from a local numbing agent to general anesthesia where the patient is rendered completely unconscious for the duration of the surgery." - Andrea Santiago

This paragraph is mostly saying that becoming an anesthesiologist means helping people deal with pain. Anesthesiologist have to maintain the average motions and life functions of someone while that person is unconscious. Meaning that, an Anesthesiologist must take risk by putting ones life in somewhat of a predicament and still make sure they wake up like they would waking up from a nap.

This photo stands for anesthesiology. Anesthesiology is a medical profession that only a few chosen people like to proceed in. The wings in the post is in the middle of any medical positions symbol, what's wrapped around it is what shows you the meaning. There are 2 snakes wrapped around the post, and that stands for anesthesia.

Anesthesiology!

Anesthesiology!

What I want to know about my topic!

What I want to know about my topic is what the Anesthesiologist get paid, what colleges major in this profession, how many years in college, and what classes I would have to take to major in this profession. I would also like to know how anesthesiologist get hired on into a hospital or a medical institute to carry on there profession.

What I Already Know About My Topic!

What I already know about my topic is that an anesthesiologist is the one who puts you to sleep before any major surgery, or the one who gives you an epidural if your in labor and experiencing some major lower back pains. Anesthesiologist do more than what you think. Between the time that you are put to rest, and the time you are awake, anesthesiologist have to go through many techniques to make sure that your body functions as if you were actually lying down to sleep at night. I only know this because my cousin is a registered nurse and she knows all about this stuff from working at the hospital. Also, I've done a lot of research on Anesthesiology to learn what I know.

The Story Behind My Topic Choice

The story behind my topic choice is very confusing actually. All my life I've wanted to be a Registered Nurse, but now a days there are so many nurses and less and less doctors, pharmacist, pediatrician's, respiratory therapist, and other sorts of medical professions. I just decided recently that I would rather go to school to be an anesthesiologist because their pay is 20x better than what a nurse would get payed. Also, I wouldn't have to stay 8 years in college to become a full out registered nurse , I could stay 4 years and get my bachelors in physics and mathematics to become a anesthesiologist. Also, I'd rather watch people faint, then throw up.
